About the author:
Bill serves as Chief Learning Resources Officer at Lakeland Community College, overseeing the Center for Learning Innovation, Distance Learning, the Learning Center, and the Library. His 20 year career in higher education has focused on faculty professional development, teaching & learning with technology, distance learning, and academic support services. Bill also serves as the North Central Regional Representative on the Instructional Technology Council (ITC) board of directors. Prior to his career in higher education he was employed in human services.
Bill has presented at numerous national, regional, and local conferences including AHEAD, SPRE, Lilly North, Campus Technology, Sloan-C, Quality Matters, ITC eLearning, and Michigan Colleges Online on such topics as: smartphone learning, online student success, advancing a culture of innovation, online user experience, flexible learning spaces, online learner engagement, social media and distance learning, designing active and collaborative learning experiences, building community in the online classroom, student support services for distance learning, and designing and implementing an in-house online teaching certification program.
This site focuses on student success in the online learning environment and related topics: emerging technologies, mobile learning, blended/hybrid/hyflex delivery, learner engagement, learner readiness, online support, open educational resources, early alert systems and analytics, completion, persistence, alternative assessment, professional development, the virtual campus culture, quality course design, and more.
